Surviving the Blizzards of 2009 and 2010
Well my first winter in Washington has turned out to be the snowiest on record, ever! This was quite a shock to someone with suburban Los Angeles tendencies. It started nice enough with a lite snow back in November, than a record breaking Blizzard On Dec. 19th. This past weekend we had 20+ inches and in the last 24 hours another foot! So basically there is snow everywhere. I read somewhere that if Ted Kennedy's Senate seat were won by a Republican then Hell would freeze over, a Republican won his seat and now Washington is under 3' of snow!
I am finding the snow very charming, since I live next door to my office the snow doesnt really affect me, I havent driven in about a week, but even that is no big loss. But after a rainy spring a sticky humid fall and a freezing snowy winter I have basically come to the conclusion that this city is really only suitable for human habitation about 60 days out of the year. To experience real seasons has been a real treat, it changes the character of the city so much from the verdant emerald greens of the spring and summer to the fire blazing color of the fall. And now the eeriely quiet of snow swept streets. I am happily looking forward to the spring though , no more snow for me for a while.
